• Hiking with Monkeys

Grand Etang Lake, Grenada, West Indies Mona Monkeys Got a Monkey on your back? Yesterday, Sunday November 20th we had the toughest and best family hike yet. It probably was no longer than 4 miles, but it was in very steep terrain both going up and down and crazy mud. There was one long hour-long session where I was leading Kaiwen down a muddy near-vertical incline and we would work together, where I would go lower, secure my footing and then she would use my feet as braces.
  • 2000 Watts of Solar

Ad Astra’s solar power station is currently producing 96 amps @ 12V of electricity for me. This is an impressive practical delivery of over 1100 watts of power against our nominally rated 2070 watts. As a result of some missing connectors, the system has one panel not wired in, so currently the true nominal rating is 1810 watts. What are we doing with this power? We are doing a load of clothing in the washing machine, making 16 gallons per hour of water with our Spectra Newport 400 II water maker and charging our laptops.
  • So many Kites in the Sky!

It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon and the sky is full of Kite Surfers at the headland that separates Secret Harbor from Prickly Bay. I gave some thought to going over and checking them out, but it is so nice just relaxing on Ad Astra. I cannot bring myself to move. I can see why people drop the hook into Secret Harbor and never leave… I posted it on facebook and tagged David Bettner and he joked that he is popping into a plane and heading right over.
